Great minds…
I think you must have been reporting this while I was marking the user as spam. The spam group has gone now.
Like I said, I usually get them pretty quickly. The spammers really should just give up.

Matthew Brown replied to the topic What pages does a good author blog need in the forum General Chat 7 years, 5 months ago
I’ve just started looking into this myself.
My advice would be to think about what you need to say to potential readers. At the very least I would suggest a “why I am wonderful” page (aka “about me”). I’d also think about a press pack – images, quotes, and so forth that a press enquiry might need.
Here’s a post on creating an about…Read more

If you do make it you could always bring it to a writers’ group that you trust (he says knowing we both attend the same one) and get some feedback in person.

Matthew Brown replied to the topic Are there any topics unsuitable for a novel? in the forum Aspiring Authors 7 years, 5 months ago
The very short answer is: No. There are no unsuitable topics.
The longer answer is that it depends on your readership. If you have invested the time building up a following you should be aware of the hard limits of the readership.

Matthew Brown replied to the topic Editors and proofreaders – worth paying for? in the forum Aspiring Authors 7 years, 5 months ago
Bta readers are good and useful. Especially in the early stages of novel revision. In fact, I offer a paid beta reading service myself because I believe they can make a huge difference. However beta readers are not always the best proofreaders and editors are, again, a separate and special breed of helpful persons.
I covered the differences a…Read more

I was going to write several blog posts and record a few podcasts. But actually, I just hurt and don’t want to.

Where happiness comes from in the group Matthew D. Brown (Author): 7 years, 5 months ago
I believe happiness is no secret. I truly believe that unhappiness – a lack of joy – is rooted in unrealistic expectations born of lies we have accepted as truth.
Mostly the lie is that happiness – that is a l […]

There’s possibly a lot of people involved, and I suspect if I asked permission from each of them I’d be flooded with questions about it. Probably won’t happen anyway, I’m lousy at any form of drawing.

The voice of one not there in the group Matthew D. Brown (Author): 7 years, 5 months ago
I was alone when I was awoken from a deep and restful sleep by the sound of my name being called.
The voice was not familiar and it said only my name. The speaker, for that was what I assumed, said my name with a slight rise in intonation but not so much as to indicate a question beyond the implied question of “are you there?”
At first, I…Read more

I generally catch the spam pretty quickly but I look into some sort of user moderation toolset if you like.

I saw an advert for some pricy editorial services today and that got me thinking. When my novel is finished is it worth paying for an editor or a proofreader?
Is there any value in something like that? I get my writers’ group to go over the MS in beta reading. That’s the same thing (more or less).
Just wondering what other people thought.

Just asking for curiosity more than anything more concrete but are there topics or themes that a novel should stay away from?
I can’t think of anything off the top of my head but are there any?

I’m thinking of setting up a blog.
I’ve seen that bloggers sometimes put up pages (which I assume are different to posts) with key information. How do I do that and what pages do I need?
Thanks.
