Matthew Brown replied to the topic Using Tumblr to promote your blog? in the forum General Chat 6 years, 6 months ago
In my experience, Tumblr is a slow burn. It is itself a blog and the same rules apply. That said, the culture around Tumblr is a bit different.
I strongly suggest creating content that is just for Tumblr and mix it in with reblogs that your readers will love. Overall keep self-promotional content minimal. Share links to your blog at most, I say,…Read more

That’s nothing to be ashamed of in and of itself. Some very successful book series started life as fan fiction. I’m not a fan of any of the examples I can think of but fan fiction is still writing.

How to receive advice as a writer, on the groupblog Thanet Creative 6 years, 6 months ago
Thanet Creative’s all genre feedback evening is writer to writer advice. Like the science community, writers work best with peer review.

What I recon we all need is an authors’ research blog – somewhere that writers can post all the researching they do for writing so other writers can use it too.
I say we should start one.

That moment when someone reads your work and is suddenly an expert. They’ve never written anything but feel they have the right to tell me all the ways I’m wrong. I ignore any advice that’s not from someone who writes.

I far prefer being single. This is not an issue for me.
You can say the same about the other holidays too – all of them highly commercialised.

What Brexit means for authors, on the groupblog Say 6 years, 6 months ago
I am not convinced the current government can be relied upon to ensure anything. Least of all free movement for authors. Remaining in the EU will give us this but Brexit, not so much.

Thanks.

Matthew Brown replied to the topic Are there any topics unsuitable for a novel? in the forum Aspiring Authors 6 years, 6 months ago
A fandom has two types of limits.
A soft limit is something that will upset, offend, or annoy the fandom. They will complain and post angry blog posts about how this is the worst thing ever. However, they will still tune in each week. We see this in action almost every time we get a new doctor in Doctor Who.
A hard limit is something that will…Read more

Jason Latnar replied to the topic I am having a writer’s block and I want to hire a ghostwriter, I hire or not? in the forum Aspiring Authors 6 years, 6 months ago
Being blocked is a bad reason to hire a ghostwriter. It means that you know that something is wrong but your conscious mind will not settle on it. Try backing up and re-writing the last few scenes. You may find that gets you flowing again.
Good luck on getting unblocked with your writings.

Watching too much TV and Netflix. Most of my stuff ends up as thinly disguised fan fiction.
