This is the way authors get noticed these days (written by an AI)

I asked an AI to write an article. I gave it 10 words and it came up with the rest.

This is the way authors get noticed these days. First, they have to keep writing, and they also have to keep writing books with imaginative settings and characters that people will want to read. The ones that don’t sell and aren’t noticed by readers aren’t likely to see much improvement. The writer who does sell, and who writes books people enjoy, can do a bit of self-promotion. An excerpt from a novel or a short story that she runs on Amazon can make a fan who loves that genre buy the book. If that fan enjoys the book, there’s a decent chance she’ll go back to Amazon to buy some of the writer’s other titles.

Most of those fans are already fans of the same author’s work. The best way to promote a book? Take a reader who loves your books and put them in contact with the author. Sell her on the books and the author’s work. Do this so the two of you become friends, and the writer can sell her other books, and the readers become loyal to the author.

For example, this week I’ve had fans of my books contacting me from all over the United States. Their questions, their curiosity, their passion for books and the characters and stories have made them want to know more about me and my books. I’ve met some of them in person and others on Facebook. I have had these fans come up to me in person, or leave me comments on my Facebook, or send me messages on Twitter. And they all love my books. That’s the kind of attention that you want when you are an author. You want your fans to know you, and to know you as a person.

Some writers don’t promote their books at all. Some don’t have a website. Or they don’t have good Facebook pages or Twitter accounts. This is why self-promotion is difficult for them. Self-promotion on Facebook and Twitter is not always easy. Just because you were friends with Facebook guru Dan Brown doesn’t mean you’ll have a fan base. You have to work at it.

Most successful writers do some self-promotion, but they don’t do it all the time. Often they prefer to stay on the Internet and work on their writing.
