Matthew Brown replied to the topic Can I present a fictional story as a true story? in the forum A QnA for aspiring authors 2 years, 5 months ago
Are you able to? Yes, I expect you are.
Should you? Hmmm maybe, I don’t know the story.
Will readers accept this when the truth comes out? I cannot say – it is a risk.
Will retailers cooperate? Who knows?
Is it legal? I have no idea. Check with an expert over the finer points of the Trade Description Act.

Don’t write worrying about what other people want to read. Write the things that you would love to read but because they don’t exist and someone else didn’t write […]

I have an idea for a character that would work really well if I presented them as real and published under biographies.
Can I do that?

Toni McHadden replied to the topic Fairy mythology in the forum General Chat 2 years, 5 months ago
I’d thought I just was not looking properly. Other than a few myths from Austrailia all fairy mythology I have found is (mostly) European or started there.
Good luck with your editing. Happy to help with an interesting distraction.

Blog: Hi! I wanted to ask if the Good Omens paperback script books don’t get printed with the gold/white cover anymore? I’ve been trying to find one but they’re all more greenish than gold. from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 2 years, 5 months ago
I don’t know. It may well be that the ink colour changed between printings – the printer ran out of the original and substituted an ink colour that was close to […]

Blog: Hello Mr. Gaiman. I understand if it’s not something you’d know, but I was wondering, with Sandman coming out do you think it would at all influence another reprint of the Vertigo Tarot Cards? from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 2 years, 5 months ago
I asked. The answer was no, they can’t reprint the original Vertigo Tarot cards, because some of them were creator-owned characters that DC no longer has access t […]

Blog: Hello Mr Gaiman. Books of Magic is my very favorite comic, especially issue 2! I’ve always wondered- when you had John show Tim around, and eventually end up at Zatanna’s house, how come she was so friendly to John after her father’s death, considering how angry she was in Swamp Thing? Was it purely to move the plot along? A very small detail in the overall scheme of things, but it’s always fascinated me! from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 2 years, 5 months ago
We knew from Swamp Thing that she and John had been lovers previously. I figured that, four or five years after her father’s death, she was willing to let b […]

Hi Toni, I’m currently trawling through a whole bunch of editing so this question has, of course, piqued my interest and is a very welcome distraction. Unfortunately I’m unable to help you and I’m sure you’ve done all the usual googley/wiki things that I’ve just done, but I did think it interesting that fairy mythology is only particular to…Read more

Blog: You’ve gotten some very antagonistic asks, seemingly moreso recently, and your responses when they come through are always tactful and gracious and patient and I just want to thank you for that. I’ve watched other authors I follow snap at fans in real time and it’s always left me hesitant to continue interacting with the author’s page and other fans. I’ve never worried about the space you’ve created here not feeling safe or even, dare I say, gentle and the vast majority of fans continue to foster that atmosphere. I hope you know that it’s very appreciated. from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 2 years, 5 months ago

you don’t have to answer this I just feel like it should be known that. going “oh well you’ll just have to watch to see” when there might not be a payout at all is rude to queer fans. and like. you don’t have to put queer stuff into Good Omens but holding it over people’s heads is. kinda shitty. from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 2 years, 5 months ago
