Matthew Brown replied to the topic free link or custom one? in the forum General Chat 3 years, 6 months ago
For authors, I feel that this question is not as important as it for a traditional business.
A custom domain name does suggest a bigger commitment to branding but also comes with a slightly larger technical commitment. That’s why Author Buzz UK offers free blogs – when you make your group you can have a blog set up for you pretty much…Read more

Bob Bobson replied to the topic Tips for writing realistic dialogue? in the forum A QnA for aspiring authors 3 years, 6 months ago
My best character conversations are based on listening to people talking. I ride the train to work and spend most of the time listening to the other passengers and taking notes.

The answer depends on two factors:
- Your audience’s needs

Which is better for authors – just using the free link that comes with a blog or buying a custom one. Something jeffjohns.com or whatever?

If you are looking for a not much skill needed to start a blog type your options include:
- blogger.com
- WordPress.com
- Author Buzz (just start a group and tick “yes” to do you want a blog)
- TumblR.com
It depends on what kind of audience you want.

Matthew Brown replied to the topic How important are headlines for effective blogging? in the forum General Chat 3 years, 6 months ago

Newspapers *and certain types of websites) try to maximise curiosity to get clicks. That’s where the click-hungry headlines – that are almost a meme at this…Read more

Matthew Brown replied to the topic I think I found a following bug in the forum Help and Support 3 years, 6 months ago
I had a dip inside the code and you are right. PHP throws an error in 7.1+ when treating strings as arrays whereas before it silently converted to an array. I added a hot fix, flagged the bug with the plugin maintainers and all seems to be working again.

When I click to follow someone I get “There has been a critical error on this website.”, if I go back and refresh the follow worked. Am I doing something wrong???
