Blog: Maybe it was answered before, but… do Crowley, Aziraphale and angels and demons speak English and always have been (even before English existed)? Because initially I thought that maybe celestial beings could just speak whatever and being understood by mortals, but the scene in France where Aziraphale has poor French proves me wrong. Also, in the book people mistake Aziraphale for English and that means he indeed has a British accent. And in the series he knows some Japanese. This means that on Earth he speaks the languages that he knows, and that being an angel doesn’t mean knowing every language. So… maybe English in the series is both the language they eventually learn as it evolves on Earth and the language we listen to as an audience when the times are old and the language is unknown to humankind? I hope I was clear, I’m sorry if I wasn’t. And I also know that this is fiction and it doesn’t matter if there is an answer, I’m just curious. from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 2 years, 10 months ago
I think you can assume that they are speaking whatever the local language is, fluently, and in the opening scene they are speaking the language of Angels. As for […]

Blog: Thank you for writing kids books that are both adorable and that I’m unlikely to get sick of after repetitive readings. Picture of my 2.5yo son with his permission and his Chu’s Day books. from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 2 years, 10 months ago
Aww. That’s what the kids books are for. They’re for kids but they’re also for parents who may have to read them each several times a day.

Blog: Hi Mr. Gaiman! I really enjoyed the theme song for “Good Omens,” it was actually what made me want to watch the show since it was the first exposure I had to it via an ad I saw. Since I’m a harpist, I decided to learn how to play it on the harp, as I thought it would sound really fun on the harp. After working on it for a long time(it was rather difficult!), I finally was ready to record it for my YouTube channel. I hope it’s not too much of a bother for me to ask, but could you listen to it? It would mean a lot if you did. I’m sorry if the link doesn’t work, I haven’t sent an ask before. https://youtu.be/hHg7kKUcIpA Also, I wanted to say that your “Norse Mythology” is one of my favorite books; it made me really happy to listen to you read the audiobook as it really brought the stories to life. Thank you for your time 🙂 from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 2 years, 10 months ago

Like most things, it comes down to practice.
If you are new to blogging, aim for something you know that you can manage and slowly ramp it up as you get better at it.
The only exception to this is when starting a new blog. Write four or more great posts that go live the moment the site is opened. Otherwise, you are launching the site naked. Make…Read more

The writing community is pretty big on Twitter. I’m not sure if anyone sells more books on Twitter. At 40k to 50k follows publishers and agents start to take note. I guess that means follows = sales.

Blog: I’ve recently been making my way through “Smoke and Mirrors” and quite enjoying it. It is usually clear these stories were written decades ago, however, none quite so much feel they would be best described as “would never have been written today” as “Changes.” Seeing as how our culture’s views on gender and being transgender have changed in the past 25 or so years since you wrote “Changes,” how do you feel about it now? Not to mention the unfortunate fact we still haven’t cured cancer. from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 2 years, 10 months ago

Blog: Hello Mr. Gaiman, I was given volume one of the sandman omnibus for Christmas. It’s a wonderful read and I’m about 800 pages in, however I was wondering if you have any advice for neck pain after looking down at a very heavy book for several hours? I feel like your advice would serve me well when I inevitably get the remaining two. from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 2 years, 10 months ago

Blog: Hello, Not a question, but about a decade ago a friend got me a copy of A Game of You for my birthday. Not exactly the happiest ending, but it’s one of the first pieces of media I can remember consuming that portrayed a trans character in a positive light, not as a joke or a villain, but as one of the heroes. It was exactly what I needed at that point in my life, so I just wanted to say thank you. from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 2 years, 10 months ago
You are so welcome.
