Platform Building: Tweeting/Tooting nice

One excellent way to increase engagement is to offer engagement. This week, think about taking part in things like Follow Friday.

Tweets/toots shouting out special or interesting follows is good for both you and the people you shout out. After all, I’m pretty sure that when people offer you attention or praise it feels pretty good. Why not offer that really good feeling to others?

I would suggest recommending a mix of people who follow back and those that do not. Maybe those not following back follow you or maybe they do not. Either way, your followers will appreciate some good suggestions. Those that you suggest will appreciate it too.

Some of my best-performing tweets are where I recommend folks I follow and think others will like too.

You don’t have to just limit this to Friday. Here are some other ideas.

Muse Monday is when we writers wish other writers and creatives “may the muse be with you”. This was, I think, started by The Muse of Last Resort.

Writers’ Wednesday – WritersWednesday is when we shout out our favourite writers who deserve a little more love.

Thriller Thursday is when we shout out our favourite thriller writers.

Make up your own if you wish, or just recommend people for no reason at all. The point here is that those who show love often get love.

Try it out and let me know how you get on.
