Blog:
Exciting to see the casting news for The Sandman. One thing I'm confused about. I could have sworn I read that it was going to be an animated series. But everything I'm seeing around the cast announcement and comments about it filming indicates it will be live action. Which is it? Animated or live action? (a mix?)
from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 3 years, 9 months ago
live action.

Blog:
Hi Neil. I’m a huge fan of your work, I’ve loved your writing since I read coraline as a kid. I was wondering since Netflix owns both sandman and Lucifer, why isn’t Tom Ellis playing Lucifer isn’t the sandman series? And does this mean the two series won’t connect?
from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 3 years, 9 months ago
The theology and cosmogony of Lucifer is a long way from Sandman’s. It’s “inspired by” Sandman, but you can’t easily retrofit the Lucifer version to get back to Sa […]

Blog:
What's your weakest ability as a write? (i.e. pacing, plot, character, etc.)
from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 3 years, 9 months ago
All of those. And putting the words down in the right order.

Blog:
i grew up on your books and became obsessed with them starting in about 2nd or 3rd grade with Coraline (my parents wouldn’t let me read it but nothing can stop a determined child’s reading). I started reading The Sandman in middle school and as I came to terms with my identity as a trans woman in high school I started to come back to A Game Of You and the character of Wanda especially the ending with (spoiler) Death seeing her as a woman and Barbie changing her name on her grave. I wanted to ask what specifically inspired you to write the character of Wanda and how did you approach writing her?
from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 3 years, 9 months ago
The main inspiration, as I remember, was having a number of friends who were trans women, and not seeing them in fiction. Roz Kaveney in particular was hugely […]

Blog:
Hi Neil, DC Universe "Infinite" just added a lot of vertigo back catalog but we didn't see Sandman. Do you know if the rights are weird, or if it's just waiting for time to be right, or if there's a marketing decision, or since your involvement is long over you don't have any idea at all? As I write this I doubt you were consulted at all.
from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 3 years, 9 months ago
I know nothing.

Blog:
Hey Neil! My friend and I are rewatching good omens and we got in a spat about whether or not the coin in the shakespeare scene that Aziraphale gives the man was miracled into existence or was just corny slight of hand on Aziraphale's part. Please prove me right :)) <3
from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 3 years, 9 months ago
I’m afraid Aziraphale didn’t discover his love of sleight of hand until he encountered John Nevile Maskelyne in Victorian times.

Can you tell the story that ties these images together? Is it a story of spies, danger, and betrayal or one of love, hope, and escape? Perhaps it is something totally different. Only you can tell us.

Matthew Brown replied to the topic Tips for writing realistic dialogue? in the forum A QnA for aspiring authors 3 years, 10 months ago
What works for me is to say the things out loud and then write down what I say. Other than that, I don’t worry about it for the first draft. After that, though, it is more art than science. Natural speech is filled with “um” and “ah” and half-completed thoughts. Generally, writers filter all of that actual talking non-sense to make the book easier…Read more

I hoped to get to a lot more writing this year but so far I seem stuck in go-slow mode. Is anyone else finding 2021 slow going?
