Blog:
The Graveyard Book cover ask reminded me of something I’ve been wanting to ask for a long time.

Is there a comprehensive list of your books that have Pulp Fiction covers? As far as I can tell from my *extensive* googling, it’s only said that Anansi Boys, American Gods, Stardust, and Neverwhere were released with the pulp cover (according to articles from 2016) but I bought a brand new Ocean at the End of the Lane w/ the pulp cover in 2020. So do you know if it’s only those 5 books with the pulp style covers?

Are there plans to release more of your works in the pulp style covers? If not, can there be? Because, if I may be so bold, pulp fiction style covers of Good Omens and The Graveyard Book would be two very cool additions to my bookshelf.

Sorry for this incredibly nerdy and inane ask but I’m dying to know.
from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 3 years, 6 months ago

Blog:
Hallo Mr. Gaiman.. I was not really able to read for about a decade due to mental illness, and as of this past January my reading brain is back! (During those times when my brain wouldn't do the book thing, I was able to read your graphic novels and comics and it was wonderful. Thank you so much for introducing me to the world of comics-not-about-superheroes, for the Endless, and for The Graveyard Book, especially.)

Last week I was finally able to read American Gods and I loved it. The only thing I wasn't sure how to parse was that Shadow often seemed to be acting without much depth of thought. I kinda got the impression in the very beginning that he had become a fairly thoughtful, measured person in prison, if he hadn't been already. Was that a narrative choice, lots of story to get through and not much time to spend inside his head? Was it more about how he was in such a depth of grief and shock that he just kinda went with the flow? Or maybe the pact between him and Wednesday sort of overruled any thinking he might normally do about his decisions? It's been on my mind, I would love any insight you might be willing to give. Thank you for everything!
from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 3 years, 6 months ago
Grief and shock and emotional numbness. The Shadow of Monarch of the Glen and of Black Dog is a lot less emotionally dead than the Shadow of most of American Gods.
