Blog: Hello Mr. Gaiman! How are you? I want to become Author when I grow up. Every time I write something I think it’s spectacular, but as soon as I go back to make corrections I cringe at it and ask myself how I could write something like that and how I could ever think that it’s good. Is that normal? Or do you know anything I can do to stop that? from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 3 years ago
It’s normal. Don’t worry. Write the next thing.

Blog: So I’m reading American Gods. I have a question. I’m chapter 9, on Christmas Day, Wednesday and Shadow are eating lunch at a restaurant and Wednesday is telling Shadow about the Fiddle Game. A fantastically interesting grift and interaction however, throughout the scene Wednesday is predating on the young “scarcely old enough to have dropped out of high school” waitress. Shadow keeps voicing his discomfort to the reader. My question is this: What purpose does Wednesday’s, frankly skeezy, leering and flirting with a minor serve for the character and the story? That he’s not trustworthy? Why is the girl depicted as anything besides uncomfortable? Because a girl any age past 15 would recognize this as incredibly uncomfortable, inappropriate, harassment. I get that it’s not relevant but idk. Thought I’d ask. (This is not a criticism I’m just curious) Thanks for your time. from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 3 years ago
Because the original version of Odin in the Norse Eddas is that person (look at what he did to obtain the Mead of Poetry), and it serves to remind the reader of […]

Blog: Hi Mr. Gaiman! I’m in a creative writing elective at school, and we’re learning about POV. My teacher said we were learning about third person omniscient, and I nearly yelled with glee because it mean I could read Good Omens in class without getting in trouble for not paying attention. Anyway, this morning she pulled out a slideshow and this was the first slide. Just thought you might want to know. Thank you so much for being an inspiration every day! from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 3 years ago
