Neil Willcox commented on the post, The Power of Visual Descriptions, on the groupblog Thanet Creative 2 years, 6 months ago
Someone said out loud something I hadn’t realised before; when you enter a room you normally look for the people first. So a description flows more naturally if it begins with the people. Unless, of course, you […]

Blog: Hi Neil! So i have tickets to see you in Dallas (yay!) But also i have a pandemic baby (he’ll be 18 months when i come see you) and I’m struggling. I have no family around me to watch him, his father is out of state that day so he can’t stay home with dad. Part of me is like “if any crowd would be accepting of a mini person being somewhere, surely it’s this one” and “damn, guess i can’t go and these gifted tickets were a waste”. Thoughts? from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 2 years, 6 months ago
You have all my sympathies. I’ve been a parent to an 18 month old four times now, and it’s really hard. They’re walking and they’re starting to say things and the […]

Blog: Do you have any advice for someone (attempting) writing their first novel, who feels underqualified? I’m 19 and dropped out of secondary school, I try not to think about how my writing will theoretically be received, because I’m going it for me, and I know you’re not supposed to care about those things, but I feel anything I write is going to be terrible and cringe, either by other people or by me. from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 2 years, 6 months ago
Perhaps it won’t be terrible. And if it is once you’ve written your first novel, you can start on your second, and that will be better, because you’ve made mista […]

Blog: Alright, so I’ve asked multiple questions without any answers or signs of acknowledgment, so I’m prepared for you to not respond to this: I’m probably not going to be able to make it to your Philadelphia tour due to my parents being very strict about me not going to school to see someone I look up to, but I just wanted to let you know that you are my favourite writer and you’ve inspired me to become my own writer; I also wanted to say that if my parents do let me come (WHOA) I’ll let you know from Neil Gaiman in the group Fans of Neil Gaiman 2 years, 6 months ago
I’m pleased I inspired you. Point out to your parents that school happens every day, but I don’t come to Philadelphia every day, and so they ought to rec […]

Australia has stories of balls of light that follow people – the Min Min.
The Philippines has Adarna. Adarna have healing powers and put people to sleep or turn them into stone.
There are many more.

I’m no expert but aren’t categories hierarchical and tags flat. Something like that.

Toni McHadden replied to the topic Tags of categories in the forum General Chat 2 years, 6 months ago
What’s the difference between tags and categories.
Sorry if that’s a silly question.
-
Matthew Brown replied to the topic Tags of categories in the forum General Chat 2 years, 6 months ago
That’s a complex question. Both are ways to define the topic space for your post.
I tend to use categories to define the broad strokes of the subject(s) of a blog and use the tags to fill in the details. For SEO reasons, I like to have the category in the permalink.
I like to tag posts with the names of people I have cited. That way it is easy…Read more
