Existing accounts using Gmail will be safe, but new accounts will be rejected. I’d be open to adding an exception for someone if they message me on Mastodon.

Have you checked to see how many current / genuine accounts use GMail? I’d suggest a rethink, the fact that GMail is one of the largest email providers around means that statistically a larger proportion of spam […]
