It got me hooked on the Culture as a whole; it was by far the best one. Jernau Morat Gurgeh’s journey was a compelling one but I liked how Banks never shies away from what it cost him, as well as what it gave him.

The game playing went so many levels deeper that’s more obviouse on a second reading.
